About the Project
Inspired by Halley's prediction of the comet based on Newton's Principia, this project will study the "Orbital Evolution, Gravitational Effects, and Time-Series Forecasting of Observation Opportunities."
Project Goals
- Gather historical data on Halley's orbital parameters from various astronomical databases.
- Simulate orbital changes using classical physics of N-body simulations to create a training dataset.
- Apply clustering to classify periods of significant orbital perturbations based on gravitational influences.
- Quantify gravitational forces' effects on orbital elements using regression models.
- Train time-series forecasting models and combine with geographical data to predict visibility conditions.
